Belfast City Marathon Relay – Choose Cancer Fund for Children
Make A RELAY Big Difference
Are you thinking of putting together a relay team for the Belfast City Marathon 2018?
We recently caught up with Jemma Nimmick, from See.Sense, a local cycling technology company, to find out more about why her and colleagues decided to take on the Belfast City Marathon together for Cancer Fund for Children in 2017.
What motivated you to take part in the Belfast City Marathon?
After Christmas, some colleagues and I had made the usual New Year resolutions to try and live healthier and to improve our overall fitness. We are all cyclists and wanted to try something different by taking on a new challenge that we could do together (Although one member of our relay team was already a regular runner – so he was a great help with tips and got us off on the right foot!)
Why did you choose to run for Cancer Fund for Children?
My previous employer supported Cancer Fund for Children doing various fundraising events. Here at See.Sense we too wanted to support a local charity doing amazing things.
Did you do much training ahead of the marathon? How did you find it?
We are all pretty active people – but the majority of us hadn’t ran at all before! So we started off by running really small amounts each week and building the miles up slowly, alongside our weekly team cycles which helped! The adrenaline you get on the day was a fantastic help too!
What was the day of the Belfast City Marathon like?
The weather was amazing – the sun was splitting the trees. I hear the weather is always great on marathon days? However the sun wasn’t what made the day – it was from the support from all of the people on the sides of the roads and of course from the Cancer Fund for Children team! Thanks for cheering us on (at stations around the whole route) when you saw the yellow t-shirts!
What would you say to others considering running the Belfast City Marathon for Cancer Fund for Children?
Sign up! The relay race is a really achievable goal and there’s nothing like that feeling of achievement once you’ve completed it as a team while raising some money for a fantastic cause.
