What Our Volunteers Say

Emma volunteers for Cancer Fund for Children and her story is outlined below:

Emma, in which area of Cancer Fund for Children do you volunteer?

I volunteer in the Fundraising Department, helping with all types of events such as the Winter Woolie Walk and I helped out at the Christmas Grotto last year.

How often do you volunteer?

I volunteer every couple of weeks, depending on what events are coming up and if I have some free time.

What is your favourite part of volunteering?

I love meeting new people and helping to spread the word about Cancer Fund for Children. It’s a really great charity to be involved with as it works really hard for children with cancer and their families. Best of all it’s local, so I know that I’m contributing to my local community. Everybody in the charity is very dedicated to their job and really friendly, so that gives me lots of motivation and inspiration to get involved. The events are always fun, you never know what you will be asked to do!

How has volunteering made a difference to your life?

Volunteering helps put my life in perspective. It’s easy sometimes to get caught up in day to day problems and working with Cancer Fund for Children helps me realise that there are some kids who are very ill and I want to do what I can to help makes their lives a little bit better. Volunteering has helped me see that every little bit helps, whether I am picking up a collection box from a local shop, or helping at a quiz night.

How will your volunteering experience aid you in future career path?

The work that I have done with the Fundraising Department to date will help to enhance my CV – employers like to see that a candidate has good interpersonal skills and has the enthusiasm and motivation to go above and beyond their 9 to 5 job. I would encourage anybody to volunteer with Cancer Fund for Children, it’s really enjoyable and you meet lots of new people along the way!
