FAQs

How much time do I have to give?

It is up to you! We know that you are fitting your volunteering time around work and family commitments. If it is a couple of hours per week or something longer–term, we can accommodate you. There are also opportunities to work at one-off events, such as bag packing events or at seasonal events such as our Christmas Grotto.

Who can volunteer?

Anyone can volunteer, however for some roles there is a minimum age requirement. If you are under 18, you will need to provide written permission from a parent or guardian.

Can I still volunteer if I receive benefits?

Yes, volunteers are not paid for their time but can be reimbursed for their travel and other legitimate expenses. For further details relating to the conditions on specific benefits, please visit www.volunteering-ni.org/

What references will I need to provide?

To start volunteering with Cancer Fund for Children, we will require two references.  For certain roles that involve working with children, teenagers and/or young people, you will require a criminal records check.  This is something we can organise on your behalf.

What are the benefits for me in voluteering?

There are lots of great reasons to volunteer; you will:

  • Make a difference
  • Meet new friends
  • Get involved in something new
  • Develop new skills
  • Have fun
  • Be part of your community
  • Boost your career options

Where can I volunteer?

The office-based volunteering will take place at our headquarters at Airport Road West, Belfast Harbour Estate. Volunteering opportunities with the Youth Programme will mainly take place at Shimna Valley, Newcastle, Co Down.
Collection box distribution and volunteering at fundraising events will be province-wide. Regardless of your location in Northern Ireland, we can still find a volunteering opportunity for you.
